Backstage — Converstion vs. Monologue
All the narrative portions of this virtual performance were actually part of a zoom conversation. We used Kristin’s camera, together with CSB’s camera, to capture better footage. Actor, writer and teacher Anne Gottlieb asks is a wonderful listener and asks questions that make it easy to open up and share with warmth. She graciously agreed to interview me. This felt important because there is a profound difference between a monologue into the black hole of a camera and a conversation. Alongside unexpected moments, the camera here captures each minute nuance — all those tiny gestures, facial expressions, mirror neurons over which I have little conscious control. Speaking with Anne brought out qualities that I could not have dug up had it been just me speaking into the void.
